Nikon Buys Red Digital Cinema
Nikon buys Red Digital Cinema-This is a big shakeup for the Industry!
I was on a shoot last week when I got a notification that Nikon had just purchased RED Digital Cinema 🤯
I've been shooting on Nikon cameras for my entire career for the last 20 years.
Over the last 5 or so years I've gotten lots of comments from people about why I still stick with Nikon and don't shoot on a Sony or Canon. Nobody shoots Nikon anymore they would say.
There was even a time 4 years ago or so when people were saying they were going to go bankrupt.
Then you had the whole Sam Newton video that went viral, making fun of anyone who still shoots Nikon, comparing them to a potato that was quite funny! haha!
My first Nikon was a 35mm film camera.
Then in about 2005 came my first digital DSLR camera the D200. Followed by the D700, D3, D810, D4, D5, Z7, Z6ii.
Over the last 2 years, I've been shooting all my photos and 90% of the video work I do with Story Directive on the new mirrorless Nikon Z9 and Z8 and they are fantastic cameras.
In 2007 the first Red Digital Camera was released with 4K resolution @ 60fps and has created some of the best cinema cameras over the years.
As someone who has stood by and kept supporting Nikon even though they were arguably the last team to the game when it came to real video support.
I knew they would eventually get there and with this new purchase of Red, that progress will be accelerated even faster.
Well done Nikon! As a long-time Nikon supporter and user, I'm beyond excited to see what that combination will bring for both Nikon and Red.
In my opinion, it's a match made in heaven.
